Our nurse today, Tammy, was born in Wooster, OH, which is where I was born. Great to have a solid midwesterner in the room.

Also, we confirmed today that we're in the correct ward. We observed a baby in the hallway, so we're happy to know they actually do deliver babies here.

Exhaust(ed)

Youngin is getting a little break and I'm looking out the window.

Below is the view from our ivory tower. I've been puzzled by a few items I see from this lofty perch.

Of course, we all take joy in looking at exhaust fan terminations, but what about those mysterious yellow signs?

One way to keep those pesky HVAC guys out of this area (contact the radiology dept first).

I don't know what to think of the sign above, but the one below seems self-explanatory. Except, where are the small objects coming from?

Non-update

We are all still doing well - just watching and waiting.

Youngin's mom brought me plenty of snacks (thank you!), but more importantly, plenty of backrub time for Youngin. Then Charlene and Mommy brought some peach cobbler. Luckily, Youngin was able to have a little too.

We continue to be thrilled with the exceptional care from all the providers here.

By the way, if you haven't entered names in the Baby Name Game, this could be your last chance! Thanks to everyone who has already joined in.

Still starting

This induction process seems to be on course, the slow kind!  Being a primigravid, this sorts of thing takes time, so we are happy to progress as fast or slow as baby wants... possibly a few days!  The medical, nursing and all other staff have been great.

Thanks to everyone for all the well-wishes and thoughts.  Appreciate them!

Early start

We're getting settled in here at the hospital tonight. We're surprised to be here this early, but I guess that's the nature of this baby production business!

We're thrilled that Youngin's parents already arrived (currently hanging out at the house)! My mom is in town as well. My dad has a plane ticket for next Thursday, which was the original date we thought we'd be here.

Oh, do I miss Chicago right now having read this!  Where else can you get such food??

Fascinating read

While at the library and browsing the parenting section, I found a book called "Simplicity Parenting."  So far, it's been very interesting.  Apparently the average American kid possesses 150 toys.  The author is a psychologist who will observe children and parents in the home, both during the week and on weekends, in order to make appropriate interventions.  His four main foci of simplifying life are: environment, rhythm, schedules and filtering out the adult world.  Sounds good to me!

Summer's HOT HOT HOT

June was hottest on record.  July is shaping up to be similar with the heat index past 100 each day this week.  We are trying to stay cool, utilizing as many indoor cool spots as possible, but even the mall feels hot.  Driving around town today I saw some people waiting for the bus in the blazing heat, some little children on a childcare bus with the windows open only partway, and some construction workers working without shade.  Hats off to them...

At last, the dress is done!

This little knitting project has taken much longer to complete than hoped, mostly because I worked on it little by little.  The dress is actually cream colored with a light pink ribbon accent.

A good day

After a good morning with our friends, we drove east for a great meal near Wendell. We spent the afternoon chatting about everything from Argentina to mules to meringue! Then we cruised to Brier Creek for another meeting with friends. On the way home we picked up a couple pizzas from Dominoes. Once we were home, we worked on homework, talked with family on the phone, read the paper and relaxed. It's been a good day.

Nice to have a refresher CPR course this evening after work.  Of course, the guidelines are supposed to change later this year so everything we learned will probably be thrown out.

Thankfully we had an awesome spread of food to compensate for staying late. 

2 breaths.  30 compressions.  5 times makes one cycle of resuscitation.  at least until further notice.

1) Noticed in the store windows..... super-skinny jeans (aka "denim leggings") are now in.  But if the majority of the population is obese, is this a good trend?!  2) In high school, the "Forenza" brand was huge, and it's now back!  Time warp.  3) Can someone sell enough crazy bands to operate an entire kiosk in the middle of the mall?

Our local hole-in-the-wall taco place has $1 taco Tuesdays.  Pretty hard deal to beat in a tiny store with fun signs that say "broken English spoken perfectly here."
