Showered with Sunshine
My office-mates held a baby shower for me at a local tea room this afternoon. We had some hot and iced tea, of course, with finger sandwiches, croissants, fruit, blueberry scones, devonshire cream, and lemon curd. Our dessert was cupcakes and chocolate truffles. All 18 of us enjoyed the "ladies lunch" very much. Little Miss G received a TON of great things... all these experienced mom certainly know exactly what I need. One great idea at this shower was that each one gave a book in lieu of a card, so our baby now has a nice library started. Thanks to everyone for a special weekend of baby showers!!

Satur-daze
The day flew by quickly. This morning was a super-nice baby shower for Little Miss G. We started with fun games and ended with a laughter-filled group photo session.
Then, we met up at the local cinema which was airing the US world cup game, and watched an exciting overtime match.
After a brief nap and quick supper, we watched/listened to the Ahn Trio with the NC Symphony at the outdoor Koko Booth Amphitheater. A wonderful evening in a beautiful setting.

Durham wanderings
Our day was spent stopping at different parts of Durham. Since the thermostat topped 100 degrees outside we walked the big mall after enjoying a leisurely lunch, and wandered into a few stores. Then we stopped at a baby store, drove up toward North Durham, and finally ended up at Duke Hospital for a tour of their Birth Center. It feels good to finally put up our feet after fighting the heat.

Photos
While organizing and cleaning out our spare bedrooms, I discovered my old photo albums. Most of the pictures are of a five year span, which inspired some FUN memory recall. Hard to believe all the stuff we did -- get-togethers, dinners, trips which included various friends and family. Troy and I looked extremely young ten years ago (imagine!). We reminisced about different ones in the group photos. Hopefully everyone is doing great!

Sum- sum- summertime
Our weekend partially was spent organizing the extra bedroom that serves as Troy's study and will also double as Little Miss G's wardrobe room. She'll be sleeping in our room initially, so literally this other room will only house her clothes and diapers. Munchkin already has accumulated a decent amount of clothes, with more bins on their way. She's going to need to change outfits four times a day just to try each one. Of course, the organization project spilled over into the next bedroom. Feels good!
As summer has officially started today, so has the heat. Hats off to Willis Haviland Carrier. We salute your genius.

Happy Papa's Day
We wish all Dads a wonderful day. Don't forget to be entertained today! Thanks to Lora for giving us the heads up on our weekend laughs. Yes, we watched all 90 of them.

Drinking your way to recovery
Based on this blog post, it might be worth running just to get to the recovery drink.

Mall walking
I used to wonder if people actually walked around malls for exercise. I've learned this week, that, yes they do -- maybe simply to beat the heat. There are definitely some elderly folks who walk, though some sit in those comfy seats in front of the department stores and read the paper. But more surprisingly to me, the age range of mall walkers is vast, and most walkers keep a good pace. Imagine the underworld of mall walkers, who navigate those tile floors and zoom past brightly lit stores with gates pulled down. Sounds like a NY Times bestseller in the making....

Quote of the day
When I congratulated the man on his recent retirement, he said: "I am doing so much housework now that I'm developing cleavage."

Kahn Academy - Great for Learning or Review
We've been watching videos on Khan Academy the last few days. Not only is there a ton of math and science review (something I need a LOT of), there is also a lot of practical information as well. Below is a simple example. (You may want to click twice to open up the full screen.)
Thanks to Ken for the heads up!

Lazy, Pool, Sand, Ice Cream
Yes, we love summer! Our week at the beach with the extended family was the perfect antidote to the craziness of the past few months. The days were filled with NOTHING -- no agenda, no appointments, no to-do lists. We simply followed our hearts' desires, most of it just being lazy. Sleep, eat, play. A real and much-needed vacation from life, while enjoying the company of family. AHHHHHHHHH!

Sizing
Seemingly women's clothing sizes are arbitrary numbers and are not equally comparable between manufacturers. A size 2 for one brand could be size 4 or 6 in another. It's a known oddity and basically every woman understands she needs to try on clothes to see if the garment will fit, regardless of the number on the label.
On the other hand, men's pants should be precise, right? After all, the waist and inseam measurements are just that, measurements. That assumption was blown away after we bought Troy a pair of pants the other day, and he measured them against other pants that were supposedly the same size. WAY different. The tape measures are becoming more generous or something....

Visitors, magnolias and rain
A quick call the other night from some old friends... they stopped by to see us last night on their way home from the beach. We enjoyed visiting with them, though it was short. We're fortunate to know some wonderful folks.
Troy has been popping off a magnolia bloom occasionally, and bringing it into the house. The scent is amazing!
Rain all week... and probably next. Welcome to hurricane season.
