Our Current Kitchen

(For all the fire inspectors out there, yes, the extension cord is rated for a microwave)

(However, we may not want to discuss this extension cord)

Cabinets Removed from '60s Kitchen, Insulation

The drywall guys came today and did some nice work. They were singing and whistling as they worked, and got more done in five hours than I could in two days.

Tonight we have someone coming over to talk about just painting the cabinets. The more we look at other cabinets and expensive counter tops, the more we think we will just go with our cabinets and some inexpensive counter top. We'll see...

Estimating

Youngin & I spent most of the day yesterday running around to suppliers and getting prices and stuff. Nothing much has changed in the kitchen, so no photos today. Maybe next week.

Looking forward to my mom being in town for a week. Too bad we're not farther along, because she's a good painter!

That's all.

Major Transitions

Violetkay is now blogging and her first post is here.

And Betty Blonde writes about the First Year Anniversary T-shirt giveaway here. I like the comic so much I'm still encouraging you to subscribe, even though it lowers our chances of a free shirt!

Remodeling 1960's Kitchen

Remember our cool old vent over the stove? It's coming out, too.

This "vintage" corn on the cob tumbled out as we took down the cabinets.

Bare Naked Walls and Hidden Treasures

We were assigned this video in my current online course.

Do you agree that happiness can be created or synthesized?

Downtown Chicago

We had a great time today.

We:
- took the Metra train to downtown
- walked to Frontera Grill, world-renowned Mexican restaurant
- walked to Navy Pier
- walked through Millenium Park
- observed many pairs of Wayfarer retro 80s sunglasses
- observed Cyndi Lauper at least three times
- observed french braids with large hair clips
- observed several dresses apparently just shipped from backorder out of the 1987 JC Penney's catalog
- rode the Metra back
- raced a lady in a Lexus with our minivan in rush hour traffic

It was fun. A good time was had by all. Great food, great times.
Downtown
, things'll be great when you're

Downtown - no finer place, for sure
Downtown - everything's waiting for you
(Thank you, Petula)

De-Plumb

Plumbus (atomic number 82 on the periodic table) also known as lead, was used for pipes in Ancient Rome, hence the current term "plumbing". Troy replaced the cast iron pipe yesterday in our basement. This was a HUGE job but he completed the job in one day, perfectly!
